Description

The Zuckerman's Barn website posts book reviews and comments written by students for other students. These postings appear under a screen name, with no link to the student's real identity. All the reviews and comments about a book appear side by side on one page, along with basic information like the book's title, author, length, and the Library of Congress synopsis. There is also a personal message system to allow direct contact between teachers and students and among the students themselves.

The goal of this site is to create a community of readers across classrooms and schools, including both students and supportive adults. By posting book reviews, students help others to choose books to read and at the same time clarify their own responses. The message boards allow interactions among students with a common interest in a book, even if they are in different physical locations.

To help students find books and reviews, many search methods are available, including searches by reviewer, by title, by author, and by genre or other characteristics of the books. The website includes over 4500 highly regarded children's book titles, and thousands of reviews that have been written in previous years.
