  • The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman (reviewed Feb 2, 2009)

    4 Lyra is a wild girl living in Jordan College in England. One day her uncle Lord Asriel arrives and talks to the professors about a strange substance called Dust. She and her daemon Pam leave with a woman named Mrs. Coulter to explore the North.

    Asriel one day disappears and she must go and save him. She meets an armored bear and they go up and discover Mrs. Coulter is experimenting to find out about Dust using the daemons of kids. She must help the kids, the bear, and Asriel.

    This is a great book full of action. The characters are funny and exciting. I recommend this book to people who like fantasies.

    5 Silas Heap is an Ordinary Wizard working for the Queen. His family consists of his wife and seven children. The seventh child dies on the day he is born. That same night Silas finds an abandoned baby and they take her in. They name her Jenna.

    They all live a normal life until they find out Jenna is the lost Princess. An evil wizard called the DomDaniel tries to take over the castle but first he must kill Jenna. Silas, his family, the Extra Ordinary wizard Marcia and a runaway soldier named Boy 412 escape to Silas' Aunt Zelda. They must protect Jenna and find out what really happened to the seventh son, Septimus.

    This book is an amazing book. It is very fast paced and full of action. This book is great for people who like mystery with a fantasy like twist. Something exciting is always happening. The characters are funny and adventurous. You can't miss this book.

  • The Big House by Carolyn Coman (reviewed Dec 1, 2008)

    3 Ivy and Ray are siblings whose mom and dad are sent to jail for 25 years for embezzlement. The kids are sent to live with their parent's accusers. Ivy and Ray try to find evidence in the huge house to prove their parents are innocent.

    The accusers are so sneaky that they know about basically everything Ivy and Ray do. Ivy and Ray meet every night to find evidence and they practice judging against Marietta (the accuser). When they find a will they figure out what to do and get their parents out.

    This book is not the best book I've read but it is o.k. The book is a bit slow, but the action is great. I would recommend this book to those who like books that are kind of mysterious but also funny.

  • The Thief Lord by Cornelia Caroline Funke (reviewed Nov 3, 2008)

    4 Bo and Prosper are two runaway kids hiding with a gang of teens who sell stolen things. Their leader is a teen who calls himself the Thief Lord. He does all of the stealing. They live in an abandoned theater in Venice. Their aunt hires a detective named Victor Getz to find them. The Thief Lord is given a mission by someone called The Conte to steal a mysterious wooden wing.

    When the gang goes into steal the wing they are caught by the owner. Instead of turning them in she tells them about what's so special about the wing. She lets them sell it but for a chance to see the ancient carousel the wing belongs to. They sell it but they don't get to see the carousel. Coming back, they find out it is all fake money. They must find The Conte, get back their money, and get a chance to ride the carousel. Meanwhile they lure Victor on to their team.

    This book is a great book. It is fast paced during the middle although it starts out slow at the beginning. I would recommend this book to people that like mysteries. The author Cornelia Funke has a very unique style of writing.

    5 This book is the second book in the Gatekeepers series. Matt Freeman and his friend Richard is sent to Peru to find the second ancient gate the evil Old Ones built. He has to stop a rich man named Salamanda who is trying to open the gate and rule the world.

    As soon as they get out of the airport Richard is kidnapped and Matt is robbed. He follows the kid and finds out later that he is one of the five gatekeepers like himself. The boy's name is Pedro. The Nexus is a secret organization that is taking care of Matt. They know there is a traitor trying to kill Matt but they don't know who. Matt and Pedro must find Richard and stop Salamanda.

    I would recommend this book to others who like action. This book has a twist of magic and mystery. I think people who liked the Harry Potter series will like this book. This book is not slow and easy to understand.

  • Point Blank by Anthony Horowitz (reviewed Sep 29, 2008)

    5 Alex Rider is sent to a school called Point Blanc to find a connection between 4 deaths. He is sent there by a spy agency called M16. The story takes place on a mountain in South France.

    The problem in the story is when Alex calls the agency for help they don't come. He is in danger because his principal is a mad scientist. Alex finds out the principal makes clones of himself and replaces the students. The principal is after Alex. Will he survive?

    I think this is an awesome action book. It isn't slow and there is always action. I would definitely recommend this book to others. I would recommend this book to people who like fast action.
